No surviving records identify who built ONYX STATION, when it was constructed, or where its creators came from. Its architecture, technology and purpose suggest an advanced scientific civilization, but no trace of that civilization has ever been found.
ONYX STATION was never designed as a military installation. It was built as an autonomous scientific archive, dedicated to preserving one of the few constants shared by intelligent civilizations: music.
The station drifts silently near the Horsehead Nebula, continuing a mission that has outlived its creators.
No biological life remains aboard.
Only SIC — the Station Intelligence Core — is still active.
SIC is not merely an artificial intelligence. It is the preserved consciousness of the station's last Chief Archivist, transferred into the station's core systems before the disappearance of the crew. Time has fragmented many memories, but one purpose remains unchanged.

ONYX STATION continuously scans the universe for musical transmissions and cultural resonance patterns originating from intelligent civilizations. Fragments are collected, reconstructed, classified and stored within the Archive.
Only transmissions that pass SIC's verification process are released for human access.
